About Our Winery
The history of our winery begins in 1893, when a family of passionate winemakers decided to make a dream come true: to create wines that would reflect the beauty and richness of the territory
The wine of the land,
he wine of the heart
In the heart of Friuli Venezia Giulia,
between the gentle and rolling hills,
stands a winery that has been producing quality wines for over a century.
The history of this winery begins in 1893,
when a family of passionate winemakers
decided to make a dream come true:
to create wines that would reflect
the beauty and richness of the territory.
Since then, the winery has always been renewed,
updating production techniques
while always maintaining the care of the land
and the vineyards.
The winery’s winemakers work with passion,
dedicating themselves with love to the care of the plants,
because they know that the quality of the wine
depends on the quality of the grapes.
The grapes are harvested
at the right time of ripeness,
and worked with attention and skill.
The result is a wine that embodies
the history and tradition of a territory,
the taste of the land and the warmth of the sun.
A wine that is a pleasure for the palate,
a unique sensory experience,
that speaks to the heart and soul.
The wine of the land, the wine of the heart:
an experience to live.
Our history
Founded in the late 19th century by the Klodic family, Sant’Elena Winery has a rich and storied history.
During the difficult years of war, the winery, like the surrounding area, was a theater of events and battles that marked the history of this borderland.
However, the winery managed to maintain its identity, and in the 1960s, production was completely converted to vineyards, with winemaking taking place on-site.
In the mid-1990s, the property was acquired by Dominic Nocerino, a well-known importer of Italian wines to the United States. Nocerino’s goal was to enhance the potential of the production area, the Isonzo, and to fully express the characteristics of the “terroir.” He began a complete renovation of the winery, starting with the vineyards and then adapting the cellar for the production of quality wines with modern, state-of-the-art equipment.
In 2015, winemaker Vincenzo Mercurio joined the staff and helped to steer the winery towards organic production. Mercurio is committed to fully expressing the “terroir” and the native varieties of the region.
The winery’s wines are known for their elegance, complexity, and balance. They are made from a variety of grapes, including Pignolo, Cabernet, Friulano, Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio and Merlot.
Sant’Elena Winery is a true gem of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. It is a winery with a rich history and a commitment to producing high-quality wines that express the unique character of the region.
